Hi,

My husband and I landed in Vancouver on Thurs 16th Feb 2012 as Permanent Residents. We are staying 12 days in total and then returning to the UK (in 3 days time) to finalize our house sale which will be 4 weeks from now (We wanted to land in case there was a problem with the sale and the visa would expire). We went to apply for our PR card yesterday at Citizen and Immigration Canada's office in Vancouver and an officer there told us it would take 2 months to get it (bearing in mind we are returning to Canada in a month's time) and that we should apply for a travel document from the Canadian High Commission in London. But now we are worried about how long it will take to get the travel document. We are really confused about what to do and feel like we don't want to leave Canada in case we cannot get back in! We could apply for the PR card and have our friend in Canada mail it to us but it probably won't get to us in time. We have to physically be in Canada to apply for it, and we are only here for another 3 days. We didn't realize it would take that long to get the card! Please help as we are panicking now!!!

1. When you "landed" the PR card was processed at that time. If you gave the officer a Canadian address, then you should receive the card in 38 business days, plus mailing time.
2. The TD would be processed in London 1-5 days, if using the the drop box, 4 weeks by mail. See: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/visas/tdpr_apply-demande_tvrp.aspx?view=d

Thanks for your reply. The officer at the airport didn't process the PR card at the time because we didn't have a Canadian address. We need to actually apply for the card. Would you recommend we do this before we go back to UK? Thanks.

The officer should have given you a form to fax an address to Sydney for the processing of the PR card.
