My PR Card has been expired and I haven't been in Canada for 2 years in 5 years. So I can't apply for my PR renewal yet. But I want to go for it any way and would like to know what happens if my PR isn't renewed. Is there any risk of losing my status as a permanent resident? I am now in Canada.

If you apply for PR card renewal when you don't have the necessary 730 days, they can find out that you don't meet the days and strip you of your PR. It is strongly recommended that you do not try to renew now. Why in such a rush to renew?

If you apply now, they will start checking your residency days. If you don't meet them, they will feel compelled to start the process to remove your PR status. AT BEST they may be unsure of your days and give you an RQ for your PR application which can delay you for a long time. If you don't lie on the RQ, then they will deny PR renewal and start the process to remove your PR status. If you lie on the RQ, that is misrepresentation and is a crime with serious consequences.

If you must leave to visit your parents due to medical emergency, then do so. There is a chance that you may be able to return due to H&C grounds of taking car of sick parents. But then again, they may decide that you were already in breach of residency before you even went to take care of them and start stripping your PR anyway. So it is a big risk regardless.

Unfortunately, you do have an option to leave if you want to maintain your status, chances are slim unless you enter back through US on non commercial vehicle on a good day, if your parents can be taken care by any other member of your family then you can try to have them look after by someone else, but take the decision that you must not regret in future.

Are you from a passport exempt country?

Not necessarily Canada become paradise for you if decided to stay here. Some people left their high earning jobs, sold their properties, left aging parents alone etc. But when lived here, they got divorced, never able to get back to their profession, their children become drug n Alcohol addict and some left them, which you expect rare to be happened when you are at your own ground.

Calculate and then decide what can be best for you and then never regret.
