1. We received your application for a permanent resident card on January 14, 2021.
2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on March 8, 2021.
3. We started processing your application on March 8, 2021. + Decision made

Lucky you.I sent on 25 January, they received on 05 February (I know this through the Postal Tracking). Have not heard anything since then. I guess I am in for a long wait.

How long it takes for new PR card, is it slightly faster than PR card renewal processing

It is actually slower then renewal, if you check processing times it is currently 118 but renewal is 86 days

Good to know that they have started Jan 2021 renewal applications. My wife's was received on Jan 21 still waiting for the email.

Both me and my spouse's PR card is expiring soon. We are preparing the application, but question is should we send both application in one mail or separately? Also is there any dedicated tread on the forum to fill up the forms and other details regarding renewal process.

I have sent three applications in one mail (three different envelopes mailed in one) for PR renewal. It was delivered on 28th January, awaiting AOR right now. I don't see any issues as long as applications are separated out in different sub-packages bundled in one big envelope. Will update once I receive AOR.

When you say application received by IRCC is it the time Canada post(or similar) delivered it when you used your tracking number or is it something you can check online?

My application arrived on Friday March 12th 2021(tracked by Canada post tracking). Today I checked my status here https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/introduction.do?app=ecas and I still can't see any update that they received my application. How long did it take for you after package arrived by tracking until CIC updated the status on that page? Or is there somewhere else I should look at or give it few more days? I am worried my documents still got lost

You need to wait around 2 months, then you will receive an update from IRCC. So around the beginning of May, you will see your application.
