Hi there, looking for some urgent help. My husband is scheduled to take his oath on Nov 19th, his PR card has expired and we are scheduled to travel to India on Dec 2nd. It's an urgent trip we need to make but we're not sure how he will be able to enter Canada since, after the oath ceremony, his PR status will expire and if he would be able to apply a travel document once he's in India. Some advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

After the oath, he will not be a PR. Only PRs can apply for a travel document to enter Canada through the airports. He should apply for a Canadian passport in India, but considering your timeline, he will not receive his citizenship certificate before the day you’re planning to travel. Without the citizenship certificate, he cannot apply for a Canadian passport.

The other option is to reschedule the oath ceremony, which is not recommended at all considering the huge backlog and waiting time.

The third option is to travel to US and enter Canada through the land border.

Good luck!
