PR app and traveling

Hello,

I'm currently living in Canada I will be applying for my PR maybe late february or early march via OUTland. Once I have submitted my application, can I exit Canada for vacation?

When I submit my application, my address would be here in Canada, am I required to call them and change the address? What if I go on a trip to 3 different countries and really no permanent address? what address should I give?

Traveling out and in Canada has no bearing on your outland application once submitted. If by chance you were ever denied re-entry into Canada, it doesn't affect the PR application.

You can use your Canadian address in the outland application. You are not required to change address unless you are denied re-entry into Canada. Then you would have to give CIC your new address where you can be reached.

Also just make sure while traveling, you are regularly monitoring your email in case CIC asks you to submit additional docs for your application.

It's also good if someone is at your home address to get any mail from CIC if you will be gone for a while, but hopefully they use email instead.

what if I intend to spend the rest of the waiting time in traveling? I'm looking at about 1 1/2 years of waiting for my PR and I feel bored doing nothing here in Canada, can't study and work. So I plan on visiting my friends around the world. It may last from 3 months to maybe 1 year to 1.5 years until finally I hear something about my PR app. My partner will stay put because she works here in Canada. I just can't bear the waiting time.

so, can I still use the Canadian address even if I spend the waiting period, outside Canada?

Only things I can think of are:
1. If CBSA shares exit/entry records with CIC and CIC determines you are no longer a resident of Canada, they could ask you to update your address info. But as mentioned, where you live shouldn't affect an outland application.
2. CIC may question why you would choose to leave your common-law partner behind and travel for so long by yourself. If you do this, you should make sure to maintain records that prove you are still in a common-law relationship while being apart (so chat logs, call logs, emails, letters/gifts sent etc etc)
3. If you stay in any 1 country for 6 months, it could trigger need for a new police check from that country if your visa officer found out

I suppose you could still use your Canadian address but if you leave Canada longer than 6 months, you are deem to be non-resident of Canada. CIC may request that you give them your latest address to send COPR to.

RobTO raised a good point about being in another country, even if it is your own country, 6 months or more, you may need to send a new police report to CIC before landing, which can add more delay to your application.
