Dear All,

For the last few days I've been glued to this forum reading all the important information provided by seniors like Qorax, Wilson, Maaties and Saki et al and it's been a great help.

I've been granted an Immigrant Visa and planning to land in Vancouver in the first week of Feb. Right now I'm in the process of collecting all the necessary documents and POF. Though I have been reading a lot about PR card and Landing experience... I'd really appreciate if you could help me out with couple of these questions.

1) Do i need to carry a filled out application for a Permanent Resident Card (including the Document Checklist) [IMM 5444] or any other application beforehand while landing at Canada or my COPR and passport are suffice to process my request?

2) I'm just carrying some clothes, My Laptop, Mobile phone, a few prescription medicines and regular toiletries to Canada. Do i need to mention them in B4 form as Accompanying Goods along with their value?

3) Due to to some work exigency at home, I'm planning to stay in Canada for a only a month and will return permanently after a year. At that time too, I'll just carry some minuscule Gold ornaments to Canada. Do i need to mention them NOW in GTF Goods to follow List along with their picture and approx value?

4) I'll be staying at my friends place for a month, who owns a house in Vancouver. I'm planning to use his mailing address to get my PR card. Is it safe? Or should i collect the PR from his place and then only come back.

I know, many of these questions may have been answered a million times by you but I'm just trying to be safe than sorry. I'd really appreciate if you esteemed seniors will clear my doubts

Thanks a ton n advance.

Hi,

1) Do i need to carry a filled out application for a Permanent Resident Card (including the Document Checklist) [IMM 5444] or any other application beforehand while landing at Canada or my COPR and passport are suffice to process my request?

No need. Your COPR will be used for the issuance of PR Card. Show it along with your passport at the Immigration Counter.

2) I'm just carrying some clothes, My Laptop, Mobile phone, a few prescription medicines and regular toiletries to Canada. Do i need to mention them in B4 form as Accompanying Goods along with their value?

If you have only above mentioned items or some more additional for basic requirements, you don't need to make a B4 form. The CBSA may ask you what you have in your baggage and you just tell about the stuff you carry. If you carry a lot of items along with you or if there is some un-accompanied cargo shipment as "Goods to follow", then the B4 forms are a must for customs duty exemption.

Yes, you need to have a B4 form filled and get stamped while landing if you wish to bring some valuable jewelry items during your next trip. But if the jewelry is for a normal wear and very reasonable quantity, you could be exempted even without a B4 form. There is no harm if you keep the form stamped for safe clearance from landing airport.

4) I'll be staying at my friends place for a month, who owns a house in Vancouver. I'm planning to use his mailing address to get my PR card. Is it safe? Or should i collect the PR from his place and then only come back.

Always getting your PR card by yourself is safe. But if your friend is a reliable person, it is between you and him how it can be arranged for sending to you up on arrival of the card at his mail box.

Thanks Wilson... for your quick reply. That's the reason i'm in love with this board. Respect!

PS: Can I make a list of goods I'm accompanying (for the first time) on a plain paper or for that I need B4 form as well?

Hi,

Please don't fill anything on the gray boxes of the form. That will be done at POE by the CBSA officer.
Country of origin - If it is a computer or other valuable instrument made in China or Japan or any where - just mark that
Country of export : from where the shipment sending to Canada.
List the items, give approximate price.
You can list as a group of items
Example only
: House hold utensils - One box - CAD 500
Assorted linen, curtains, sheets - Two box - CAD 300
Assorted shoes - 12 pairs ; CAD 200
Books : one box : CAD 100
Kitchen ware : One box: CAD 500

Even though you are returning you can mention the items are imported for settlement.

A quick question :

Are you bringing too many items with you or only basic personal items like some dress, winter clothing, laptop, camera, cell phone etc?

Not at all... I'm just carrying 3 bags filled with Clothes shoes et al along with a laptop, camera and phone.

I'll be marking Settler on the page as suggested by you

PS: Oops, About the grey boxes you mentioned, Am i not supposed to fill the Port of entry, Date of landing, IMM 5292 No.

My bad....

Thanks and looking forward to your assistance

:DOk, it is very simple. As you have no unaccompanied goods, the baggage along with you go easy without any B4 form. The purpose of B4 forms are actually if there is too much items you bring. However, you can keep the form filled but I am sure at the POE the CBSA will not bother about that and you will go easily.Good luck.
Thanks and as u mentioned I'll keep the form handy for the "goods to follow" list which i may bring next year when i move there permanently....

HI All,

So I'm in Canada now... Vancouver... It's been a mixed experience so far. Sharing a few details...

1) The entry and welcome at POE went well. At the immigration however there were 2 guys only who looked not too excited. I gave them things to follow B4 list with some jewelry but they didnt stamp it and told me to show it to customs who inturn send me back to immigration ppl. Immigration guys still didnt put any blue or blak stamp on all the coloured pics of jewlery but filled a form with hand telling that some jewelry will follow.

So i dint know whether it will be of any help when i bring the things with the next visit.

2) Anyway, my spouse had to go through re-medical in India and had 2.2 mared on her COPR. The immigration ppl finally gave her the medical surveillance hand out and told her to get in touch with med ppl in BC asap. Though they almost clreared her at firrst ... but them my bad luck came to play again.... :(

Things didnt end there, when i contacted them over phome med helpline said we'll get back to u at ur Canada address with in 40 days.

The med surveillance paper says get in touch within 30 days... the med ppl say they will get bak in 40 days... though i called them but how they know on paper that it was I who got in touch them .

There was no file number taken nor my call acknowledged that yes we have got a call from a client and now the meds have an action item. So i'm crossing my fingers.

*) We all had plan to return after a month and get back after a year now with med surveillance that plan went for toss too. My spuose will now stay fro good i guess as i dont know whether it will be safe to cacel or reschedule the first appointment she will get in letter.

*) I hope the PR cards for all 3 of us will not be affected due to this surveillance and will come on time. I check with immigration ppl they told me that the two are not related. What's your take on that seniors?

I know lots of trouble and queries I'm sharing with u all but u all have been a great help for me so i'm falling back on u once again for some solutions.
