PR after PGWP ends

Hello!

I'm a fresh graduate from a 1 year post graduate certificate here in Toronto. I would soon be applying for PGWP and start working. Considering I would only have one year of visa to work, how should I go about applying for my PR?
As I understand, I will have to leave Canada after my PGWP ends and I cannot submit my PR application before the one year of work-experience has completed because I would not have enough points.
Is there a way I could extend my stay beyond the PGWP in order to put up my application while being in Canada?

It would be of great help if someone can share any insights about my query!

Thank you

You cannot extend a PGWP. You'd have to get a LMIA-approved job with a closed work permit in the next year to continue working after your PGWP expires.

Well in last 30 days of your PGWP you could apply to flip your status to visitor although you still need to get that year in which not easy on a one year PWGP assuming get a job straight away .

As for applying whilst in Canada no guarantee as a visitor you can stay on whilst application processes if that is your intention and no work of course

Thank you for your response guys!!
I just came across something called as a "bridging open work permit". According to this I can continue working until a decision is being made on my profile.
Could you shed some light on how I can use this method to my advantage?

Thanks again, I appreciate it.

You can only use this if you have already applied for PR (i.e - you've been invited, and have submitted your final application. Simply being in the pool doesn't count.)

You may be eligible for a bridging open work permit if:

  • you applied for permanent residence
  • your current work permit expires in 4 months or less
  • you have valid status on your work permit
  • you are currently in Canada
You can only qualify if you applied to one of these permanent residence programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Provincial Nominee Program
  • Caring for Children Class
  • Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class
If you applied through the Provincial Nominee Program and have employment restrictions as conditions of your nomination, you can’t get a bridging open work permit.
