The PQ or the Separatist party in Quebec recently stated that Multiculturalism is a Canadian Value But not a Quebec Value. Therefore people should be prepared to not have their culture respected if they move to the Quebec nation. There is only one culture and that is the Quebecois culture. If you are not happy with that, move to Canada.Just to let people know that racism is socially acceptable in Quebec and I expect to see a Le Pen type Nationalist Front rise soon in Quebec.Remember this before deciding to settle in Quebec

There probably already is a Le Pen style party in Quebec (and every other Canadian province). I doubt they sniff power any time soon. Look at it this way, you could go to the U.S. and deal with the Tea Party, which very may well win the Presidency in two years......... :o

But thats the scary part,The PQ is leading in the polls and may form the next Quebec Goverment ??? :o

Multiculturalism is fraught with philosophical and practical difficulties. From the perspective of some Quebecois, their culture is itself a minority culture threatened with assimilation into the much larger anglophone world of North America, therefore it needs protection from the state. There is a problem of reductio ad absurdum

Therefore if I am a minority culture I can be racist??? ???So does that mean Chinese can call africans with the N word and South Asians can descriminate against Jews??My personal take is racism is racism no matter how you try to hide it

Being racist and not recognizing minority group rights is not the same thing. If you want legally enshrined protection for immigrant cultures, then how do you reconcile that with the claims of the Quebecois who are themselves a minority culture? The entire situation is wrought with great difficulty...............

The problem is that the concepts are so vague that nobody really knows what anyone means. What does it mean to "respect" other cultures? Does this just mean not banning their customary foods, or does it mean having state-run schools where teaching is done in their native language? Does this mean that they should be allowed to set up their own family law courts, or just that we should allow their religious officials to perform marriages?

And so on...
