Hello Friends,

I got my PPR today, but I just found out that The government of India had decided to discontinue hand-written passports in accordance with recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to incorporate biometric data in the machine readable travel documents.

I am currently living in Toronto and will be flag-poling at Niagra Falls after receiving COPR.

Now my question is - Should I be sending my existing passport (still valid for more than a year) to CPC-Ottawa for visa stamping?
The time period on the consulate / BLS website for a passport re-issue is 4 - 6 weeks.

Now, CIC has no mention of this in their PPR letter or on the website. I am kind of in a dilemma.

Would appreciate an input on this situation. Seniors please help :'(

Thanks & Best Regards.

I renewed mine and got it in 2 weeks. You can call cic and speak to an agent regarding your situation. In this situation they might give you some extra time to renew your passport. First ask CIC if it is necessary.

Congratulations for PPR

Thanks manidhatt.
I have decided to just go ahead and send my passport anyways. Will take my chances.
Worst case, they will send my passport back and ask me to apply for a new passport. Will post a reply on this thread once I hear back from CIC!

Where did you apply for your renewal? Toronto consulate?

Also, wish you all the best - Hope you get your ITA soon buddy!
