Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble finding information relevant to my situation and am wondering if anyone has advice or links that may help. I am an American citizen and have a potential job opportunity in Canada. I am engaged to a Spanish citizen and we currently have a Fiancee visa in progress in the US. Our wedding is in the US in September.

I'm wondering what the options would be for my fiancee if I accepted this job? Would he be able to come to Canada three months before the wedding? Would that cause issues down the line if we moved back to the US in a few years? Is there any help for him if I have a Canadian work visa and he is my spouse? I'm hoping to understand the challenges and options available to us so I can be prepared if a job offer is made. Thank you so much for any help!

According to CIC, if you are authorized to work in Canada, your accompanying family members may also be able to work in this country by virtue of the permit you were issued. No other authorization is required. If they intend to work while in Canada, your accompanying family members should find out if they are eligible for an “open” work permit.

Thank you for the response and link! Is there anything that would qualify him to live with me in Canada before the wedding (3 months beforehand or thereabouts), or is that ill advised?

He could apply as a visitor.
