Post-graduation work permit - Evergreen college (Calgary)

Hello everyone,

I was looking for options to study in Canada a certificate/diploma that lasted at least 8 months in order to apply for a post-graduation work permit with the possibility to be a Canadian citizen one day. I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.

I've been looking at the CIC website and even asked the Career counselor adviser but no luck with a clear answer. This is the diploma i'm looking to apply:

Computer System and Network Specialist Diploma Program (can't post the direct link from Evergreen college)

But again i'm not sure if this counts for the work permit & post-graduation work permit. Have anyone studied here?

FYI - You need to become a Canadian permanent resident before you can qualify for citizenship.

If you want the option of becoming a PR one day, you should take a program that is at least two years in length so that you qualify for a work permit afterwards that is three years in length. That will give you the highest chances of potentially qualifying for PR.

An eight month program will get you an eight month work permit and your chances of then becoming a PR will be pretty low.

Yeah, sorry i didn't made myself clear. But my real question if that Diploma allows me to opt for a Post-graduation work permit. Since i can't find any kind of info about it.

Evergreen is a private career college. You want to stay away from private colleges because they typically offer a poor level of education and have a bad rep with employers in Canada. Additionally, there's no guarantee you'll qualify for a PGWP because you attended a private college. Find the same program at a public college like Humber or Centennial or Seneca.

Syclla I was wondering....Other than giving one more time to apply for PR, does the three year work permit have any other advantages? If the person got an offer of a permanent employment during just the 8 months of work permit, would that be sufficient? I have been looking to ask this question and am so glad I found this thread.

No - not sufficient. An offer of permanent employment only helps you if the employer is willing / able to obtain an approved LMIA as well. The LMIA process is long and expensive for the employer with no guarantee of approval at the end - and the vast majority of employers aren't willing to go through it. When making your future plans, you should assume it won't be possible to obtain a permanent employment offer and approved LMIA.

That's the only advantage. We see many people here really struggle to get PR with only a 1 year work permit.
