Post graduate Work Permit Question

Hey All,

I am a student in Canada, I just finished my masters, but I still haven't got the official transcript. I talked to my program director and he said I have passed my courses but I have to wait until the graduate office updates the marks officially.

Can I take an un-official letter from my program-coordinator and apply for PGWP? Will CIC accept it? Has anyone else faced the similar situation?

Thanks
Ali

Hi ralo_01,

Haven't you got a graduation notification yet either?

According to the check list for a PGWP application (IMM5583), you may use either one of followings below as a proof of the completion of your study:

-A final transcript
-A letter from the institution
-The formal notification of graduation

Thanks for your reply, no I haven't received the graduation notification.

Does the letter have to be in certain format? or any letter from the registrar's office will do?

Thanks

Hi,

We have one recent case on this forum just a week ago, where an applicant applied for PGWP on the basis of a Official Graduation Notification. But his application was refused for want of original transcripts. So may be you should wait for the Official Graduation Notification as well as original transcripit. As you might be aware the average processing time for the issuance of PGWP is around 90 days, so may be in case of any issue with your 'unofficial notification' the same processing may get extend beyond the period of 90 days.

Hello,

what enfield says is true. I just found the thread.

canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/denied-on-post-graduation-work-permit-t83277.0.html

So you might want to wait for your official transcript to be released and I don't recommend you send any UNOFFICIAL document as a proof of your graduation.
Since you have to apply for a PGWP within 90 days, it will be too late to re-apply after your application is rejected.
