Hello all,

I am in a big problem and was wondering if there's any thing to go about it. I am graduating in November 2015 and as per plan I was supposed to finish my masters thesis and apply for work permit by August 30 given the deadline for completion was August 15. My documents expired on the 30th of August but sadly due to an administrative error my thesis was accepted on the 15th of September and I couldn't get the course completion letter and hence couldn't apply for post graduate work permit. I have 90 days to restore my status but I cannot get a study permit because I am not a full time student. Is there any way to go about this?

Are you sure about this? I'm not an expert on study permits, and you should ask this in the Student forum, but having just read through the study permit guidelines,
(a) I did not see anything that says you have to be a full-time student to get a study permit
(b) Students in their final semester are (usually) considered "full time" even if they only register for thesis hours.

You should apply anyway to extend/restore your study permit. It's the only way you'll be able to get the PGWP...

My partner's study permit was renewed although he is only writing his thesis this year and taking no courses. Apply quickly to renew your study permit through this semester at a minimum and then apply for the PGWP.

Hi guys
My name is Hesham and I'm doing Masters of Applied Science (MASc) in engineering. My program is a two year program therefore if I finish my program in two years will be eligible for a 3 years post graduate work permit. My study permits expires at August 30th, 2017. I have applied for a study permit extension more than a month before the expiration of my study permit. The processing time for a study permit extension is about 68 days. If I graduate before I receive the study permit extension, can I apply for a post graduate work permit after the expiration of my study permit? To simplify the question, I will break it down as shown below.

My study permit expiry date : August 30th, 2017

Applied for study permit extension in July 26th, 2017

I will receive my study permit extension around October 10th, 2017.

If I graduate in September 15th, 2017, (before receiving the permit extension and after the permit expiration date), can I apply for a post graduate work permit?

Given that I can only apply for a post graduate work permit if my study permit is valid.

Please help me.
