Hello,
I hold an open Post Graduate Work Permit, currently inside Canada. I had applied for the PGWP 2 months before expiry of my TRV but the WP was received after the TRV expired on Dec 1. I have to go back to my home country on Dec 25 and hence I couldn't apply for my TRV renewal from within Canada. I was worried that I won't get my passport back before my travel date.
I am planning to apply for TRV on 28 December, from India. But I am concerned that I would have overstayed a bit in Canada. What do you suggest as the best option?
Also, CIC has started accepting online applications starting 15 of december from within and outside Canada. Only copies of passport and documents need to be uploaded. Is it possible to submit application before I leave canada. I need to be back here before Jan 15.
Thanks in advance.

If you have valid WP, you maybe able to return with your original TRV. Check with CIC and your visa office in India.

Pro-Public:

The answer you got to him/her is just for those who are coming back from U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon. But he/she is coming back from India.

I had similar situation with my study permit 2 years ago. After too much searching, finally had to go back home and apply from my country. It coused me to stay a bit longer. I wrote to my supervisor and explained the situation and he just replied: "enjoy your trip!" ... and so I really did 8)!!

But now I am an employee with almost similar situation. I am holding a PGWP and have to first extend it and then apply for my TRV which would take around 3 months in total. I do not know about the new online system and if it works for TRV as well or not. If it works, then no more problem and we can send our application before our departure and then get it anywhere...

Hope we both can get a good solution.

Thank you. As an update, there is lot of confusion regarding the online system. The help section doesn't help at all and many agents at the call centre also doesn't know. I had to make three calls to get to someone who knew the system. After filling the pdf application, you validate it - then the system will ask to print and sign, which is meant for paper based system only.Actually we just need to save the file and upload it. Finally when you click to transmit it the system will ask you whether you want to sign it. The agent told me they are also learning!
In my case I am going to India and submitting application the day I land. Need to get back on 14 th, keeping finger crossed. The processing time at Delhi for TRV was shown as 3 days, don't know what effect the online system will have on it
Thanks and good luck to every one.

Hello Arun,

I am wondering how you handled your issue with getting a TRV? Now I am on your shoes!
Did you apply online? If yes, how did you get your visa without sending them a real passport?

Thanks

My question is - how did you pass via Europe on a expired TRV and only your post graduate work permit to show ? Which country will allow that ?

Thanks
