Possible Options to Bring Family (wife & Kid) in Canada as a PGWP/Job Holder

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and my understanding is it has became really difficult to bring wife/kid in Canada as a work permit holder in last few years. It would be really helpful for me if you guys come up with your suggestions/comments on the following options:

As we know, we can invite our wife, kid, parents or other family members to visit us for short term while staying in Canada. It could be 2 weeks or more. We have to show some strong tie for them in home country, travel history and sufficient reasons that they will leave Canada at the end of their stay as a temporary resident.

Another option could be, suppose someone gets PGWP approval for next three years after completing his MS. In my case, I have a full time job offer for a permanent position (in fact I have been doing job for last two months under PGWP implied status as nowadays it takes around 90-120 days to get approval on PGWP application). When I will apply for my visa after getting approval on PGWP, I could include my family members (wife and kid) applications mentioning that they are going to accompany me while I will be working in Canada. In that situation, CIC will see that I have a permanent full time job offer, I can afford my family living expenses so there might be a chance to get TR visa for my family.

Note: I applied once for the visiting visa of my family (wife and kid) in January, 2015 when I was doing my MS and got refused. I was waiting to change my status from student to PGWP holder. Now I am thinking to apply for them again.

Considering the above situation, at this moment, which option I should try?

I would try for the OWP once you have your PGWP. Note that you don't just have to have a full time job - that job also has to be NOC A, B or 0.

I actually dig this way to bring my fiance as well. In my case - we are not married yet, but I have permanent fulltime job in Skill B

For you:
If your spouse wants to work in Canada
If your spouse or common-law partner wants to work while in Canada, they must apply for their own work permit. Normally, they must meet the same rules as you do. This includes their employer getting an LMIA from Employment and Social Development Canada/Service Canada, if needed.

Your spouse or common-law partner can apply for an open work permit if you are:

approved to work in Canada for six months or longer, and
doing a job at Skill Level 0, A or B in the National Occupational Classification.

Note: If you have an open work permit (e.g. post-graduation work permit, International Experience Canada, et cetera) your spouse must attach a copy of your work permit to their application for an open work permit, along with a:

letter from your current employer that confirms you work there in a NOC 0, A or B occupation, or a copy of your employment offer or contract, and
copy of your recent pay slips.
Your spouse’s permit will not be valid longer than yours.

Remember work in fastfood will not qualify.

I work as a Senior Software Engineer in an IT firm. It matches "2173 Software engineers and designers" which is "NOC A" category listed occupation.

I applied for the Post Graduation Work Permit and currently I am in implied status. As I completed two years MS degree, literally, I will three years work permit.

As I understood you guys are not suggesting to apply for the visiting visa. Not even just as a dependent after I get approval on my PGWP though the salary I am getting here is more than enough to bear cost of my family?

Also just to know, did you guys see any success case who applied for OWP by showing his/her spouse's work permit?

Hi,

In my opinion, it will be easier for your wife to get open work permit than visitor visa. for visitor visa she need to prove social and financial ties. For my PGWP it took 8 month to receive
