Hi All

I am trying to book my tickets to Toronto for November and got a doubt. The flight I am looking at is operated by Qatar Airways and it is from Doha to Montreal and from there to Toronto by Westjet. The questions I have are below

1. Will Montreal be my Port of Entry which means I will have to finish all the landing formalities there and then take the connecting flight.
2. Is it ok to land in Montreal or would that create some issues?
3. Do I need to collect my baggage and check in later?
4. If I need to check in again, would i have to pay excess luggage as mine would be above the limits of Westjet?

Thanks

1)yes as Montreal would your first entry into Canada but you need to make sure you have maybe 2-3 hours layover between flights in case to complete landing.
2)no reason given your final destination is not Quebec
3)if you are travelling on one ticket Doha to Montreal to Toronto then all you need to do is collect your bags for a customs inspection, then find the conections desk to drop your bags off. On one ticket your bags should be checked all way to Toronto.
4)again assuming you travel on a single ticket end to end your bags should be tagged all way to Toronto and it is usual for the major operators baggage allowance to apply in this case Qatar.

For 3 / 4 if you have 2 tickets one for Qatar to Montreal, and Montreal to Toronto thats a whole different scenario where you will need to exit the customs area and checkin afresh , thus subject to Westjet allowance.

So message is to book a single ticket end to end with bags checked all the way through to Toronto even though you need to clear immigration /customs in Montreal and drop at the connections desk for the domestic sector.
