Guys, where is the port of entry for students who'll study in Ontario? Thanks! :) I heard from someone that Vancouver is the only port of entry.

The port of entry can be ANY airport or ANY land border crossing.

Vancouver is definitely not the only port of entry. Whoever told you that has absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

Are applications to study in Ontario able to apply at Quebec land border crossings without a problem?

Is there anything different or that parents and students should be sure to have with them when applying at a border crossing? Feeling nervous as we are applying only two weeks in advance of student's school start date. We have been told there are usually no problems.

Thanks! I posted this question somewhere else, but maybe you can shed light on this. I am confused as to whether we need to open a Canadian bank account for our daughter and deposit cash to cover a year of expenses, even though we can provide documents they ask for proving ability to pay tuition plus those costs. In addition to the documents, such as bank drafts, proof of scholarship monies from the school, pay stubs, etc., do we also have to provide the cash for the whole year now and deposit it in a Canadian bank for the visa to be granted? I am going by the immigration website that states that per one student, the amount of $10,000. is the minimum, addition to tuition. Or can we just prove that with documents? We were planning on showing monthly salary to show this ability.

u dont have to open canadian account for ur daughter. if u r sponsoring her u need a letter stating ur sponsoring her and ur bank statements ( US bank statement is fine) which should be according to the required amount that is 1 year fees + $10000..... u can add 1 year fees paid receipt then u need to show $10000 only . So the point is u should show ur ability to finance her education . ur pay stubs and bank statements are good u can also add ur W2's or tax documents. US citizens should have no problem getting a study permit ...should be a piece of cake.. thats just my personal opinion.

Thank you! It's reassuring to hear this response and I appreciate it!

Do you believe we would need to also apply for a Temporary Resident Visa along with the Study Visa, if she is staying in the school's dorm and that is part of her tuition?

For studying or landing in Quebec you will need CAQ.

TRV is given automatically when you apply for study permit. But if you are from Visa exempt country you will not need one.Residence is not included in tuition.

I think ur getting confused between study permit and study visa. If ur from a country which requires visa to visit or study in canada then u apply for TRV along with ur study permit application . however visa exempt countries do still need application for study permit but wont need a TRV application. So visa is a document which lets u enter canada and study permit lets ur legally stay in canada. since ur country does not need a visa to enter canada all u need is a study permit which u get as port of entry. U only need CAQ if u have to study in quebec. as for the dorms they normally r not covered in ur fees but u can check ur fee breakdown.

It's my understanding that for a year of study, we will need a Study Visa for her. She is coming from the US and will be living in a dorm that is part of the school. But it sounds like as part of the process, we need to apply for a TRV as well. Does this sound right?
