Pondering on inland vs outland (vietnam) spousal PR

Hi everyone.. just joined this forum that has lots of great information.

Here is my situation.

We just got married in canada. My wife is in canada with me - she previously recieved a post graduate work permit after she completed college on a student visa. The work permit is valid until the end of 2016.

I understand that outland can be processed faster than inland but I have also read about vietnam office requesting for interview 24 months later (from another thread). I also heard there are some complications with respect to travel when filing for inland application. My wife wants the freedom to travel.

What is my best bet for course of action?
-Apply for inland spousal PR + extend work permit?
-Apply for outland + hope for the best?
-Apply for CEC at the same time + hope for the best?

I have been pondering for quite some time what to do after marrying

I would definitely recommend outland if the ability to travel is a priority for her. She wont get an interview if you guys have minimal red flags and a straightforward application

If you do get an interview, most ppl are reporting that they only had to wait 12-15 months instead of 24. Regardless, it is extremely important u send in lots of relationship proofs to avoid the interview. Extremely important to address any red flags u might have. My Vietnamese wife got her visa in 6 mths, but lately there are people getting the visa in 3 months (Viet spouses), so definitely go outland. At least with her PGWP, she can stay w u while the outland app is in process.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I will probably go ahead with the outland application. Whats the process on the VN side? Is there anything that needs to be filled out to be submitted in VN? I know that the processing will take place in canada first. On the CIC site, i was unable to find a guide for vietnam

There's no guide for Vietnam, just either sponsoring a spouse outland or inland, although Part 3 you have to choose Vietnam. Read the instructions carefully. By marrying in Canada, you save yourself a bit of paperwork by not having to acquire a marriage certificate in Vietnam, you just need to get the criminal checks, and I'm sure you can only do it if your wife is physically present in Vietnam. Not sure about that though, might have to ask her.
