Police Record for student visa?

Hi,

are police records needed for the student visa? I think I heard of this somewhere but the CIC mentions nothing. Just making sure

You do need to get clearance from law and order authorities from all countries where you have lived for a period of more than 6 months.

In fact, there have been instances of visa being rejected for failure to provide this document.
