Hi,

I got invited to apply for a working holiday visa and need to mention which countries I have lived in for longer than 6 months in the past 5 years and provide police clearances of good conduct for each of those countries. For my studies I spent time abroad and was registered in those countries, but also kept my main registration in my home country Belgium, hence I never "left". One of the countries I studied in but returned home over the weekends, the other I stayed for longer periods (a year in total for paid thesis-work) but have also gone back to Belgium to visit. I was thinking of leaving out that information as it is an extreme hassle for me to actually get those clearances.

Will CIC find out I stayed there? It's not that I have secrets to keep or would not get the police clearance, it's just a costly and time-consuming affair that I'd like to avoid. I can already imagine not being able to retrieve the correct information for them to verify me straight away and foresee a lot of communicating back and forth. I was hoping since I kept my main registration in Belgium I could just leave it at that and be done with it.

Cheers!

PS: posting this here cause it has been impossible for me to call CIC themselves, I think the 0800 number won't let me call from abroad.

You need to obtain all of the police clearances. Failure to do so is misprepresentation which could land you a five year ban from Canada. Yes - they have ways of finding out where you were and how long you've spent there. If you're not caught now but are potentially interested in remaining in Canada long term, they your misrepresentation will absolutely be caught during the permanent residency process.

If coming to Canada is important to you, don't misrepresent information in your application. Lying to any immigration body of any country is always a terrible idea.

That's what I figured. I was hoping it didn't apply since I had kept my home registration but will obtain them now anyways. Thanks for keeping me on the right path ;)
