Police Clearance Certificate for Indian Origin applicants

I am originally from India and I plan to apply for my citizenship this fall and have a question regarding PCC (police clearance certificate) from India. I have couple of years where I was in India for over 180 days in the past 5 years and I believe I require a PCC to be submitted along with my application. My question is can I submit my request to local Indian embassy and if they do support this service what is the turnaround time. What documents we are required to submit when applying for PCC with the Indian embassy. I do appreciate your inputs and you sharing your past experiences.
