Hello everyone,

We are in the process of applying for the PR for my wife who is in Chennai,India. She had gone to the police station to request and the officer said he will need a police clearance request from the Canadian immigration which shows the case number

She had told them repeatedly that that we are applying as a spouse and we have to submit the certificate while submitting the application and there is no case number.

We didn't know about the police certificate letter part of the PR package and didn't take that but I'm sure they wouldn't accept it since it doesn't have a case number or a signature

Has anyone applied for police clearance in Chennai specifically while being sponsored by your spouse.

Any help is appreciated

Its best if you get her polica clearance from the Indian passport office. I can't seem to post links but go to google and type seva Kendra police certificate. First link should be a govt of India link. They will have step by step instructions. You have to submit a form online and then you go to your specific passport office. I believe they setup an appointment. Most people get their certificate from the passport office not the police station. Its fairly straight forward unlike other government processes in India.

Thank you very much for the reply.

This is what I found. http://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/online/pccOnlineApp

Have you or anyone applied here and how long does it take and what document do you have to submit.

Thanks in advance.

Yes that's the one. My wife got it the next day. It took two hours at passport office. Her seva Kendra was in UP. Not sure what the timeline is in the south but I imagine it should be the same. Follow the instructions on the steps. Take your passports, marriage certificate and passport pictures.

thanks,

I read on the CIC that the police clearance from the passport office is acceptable.

would you know whats the difference between this and the once we get it directly from the commissioner of police?

We went through Passport office as well. But in any case, its not a easy task to get PCC in Chennai I felt. There is a lot of back and forth with the police station, as they kept saying that they didn't receive notification from passport office yet, the constable was on leave (and apparently only that constable can certify), and inspector being on leave or going out for lunch and so on. I assume you catch my drift as to why they were doing this. But, we persisted for 6 weeks and finally got our PCC.

I think they are the same? Passport office notifies the Police Station of your area, they come to verify your residence etc. and issue the PCC. Same would happen if you went through Police Commissioner - he would notify the Police station of your area and they come, verify, and issue your PCC.

That is where I am getting confused. I am reading online in forums when you apply through the passport seva is a very hassle free process and you can get it in a day or so.

I just want to make sure that applying to the passport office doesnt create the process of it being forwarded to the commissionaires office then the local station

I can tell you what is described in that post did not happen with me. We got an appointment with passport office, yes. My wife went in, paid fees etc. Was not given the PCC in hand. Instead she was told that her locality's Police Station will be notified, and that we should contact them to proceed further. Then, after several days of back and forth, one constable finally arrived, did a lot of questioning, cross questioning, called the neighbours (I'm not joking) and questioned them, checked house papers, asset papers and everything else imaginable, and finally said he will send out the PCC soon.

Wow I didn't realize it would be this much hassle in Chennai. Hopefully you don't have to wait long.

Here is an idea that may or may not work have your wife print out the PCC request form and take it the Canadian Embassy explain the problem (they may be familiar with the it) to them see if they will have a Consular sign the request.

That is what I think happens.

Did I forget to mention, the police officer also want a letter from the neighbors saying how long they know her and she lives here etc. Crazy...

I am think the same as well. Also it might be faster just going through the local police man then through the passport office if its all a big circle.

Its the PCC drama from Chennai that pushed our application filing date to May month, where usually the application volume peaks. So essentially, not only did I lose time in waiting for PCC, but got put into the high volume crowd which further delayed the whole process. Applicants in March and April had 30 days sponsorship processing time. By the time May came, it was 60 days. But, in the end, it is what it is I guess.

oh my that's not a good thing.

She tried explaining that there is no police clearance request from the immigration nor a case number since I am sponsoring and not applying for PR directly, but he wouldnt listen.

We are going to make one more try by showing him the forms, application package and the police clearance letter which is part of the application package if not we are going to the passport office.

do you guys suggest this? or do to the passport office
