police clearance before applying

Hi,

I am trying to navigate the whole process of sponsoring my spouse to Canada.

It seems that she will need police clearance from a couple of different countries that she has lived in since she was 18.

The current wait times at least for the FBI is at least 9 weeks. Is there anyway of applying and sending in the clearance afterwards? I was really hoping to send out the applications this week...

Thanks again for all of your help,

Mocool

Is your wife a US citizen or PR? If so, you can use a 3rd party 'channeler'.

I tried to post the link, but it won't allow me. Anyways if you look on the FBI site, they have information and links and all

I used one of them to get my certificate. I had to pay $40, but I think the FBI charges $15-20 anyways. I received my record 4-5 days after I mailed the form and fingerprints to the 3rd party channeler.

Hi Apstone-

I, too, used a channeler. I called CIC to verify and I was told I am able to use a channeler. However, I have heard from others that you are not able to do so. So, until I get any word on my file, I am unclear about this. Wondering if your app is still in process or have you completed this?

Hm, the only difference I saw about using a channeler was that you cannot get it apostilled. However, the CIC does not require the police certificate to be apostilled from the USA. From what I could tell, the report itself is the exact same thing you get by just applying directly from the FBI. Maybe the CIC has different certification requirements depending on the country?

In any case, 9 weeks is ridiculous to wait for a police check. I had to get checks from France and Holland as well. The French one was FREE and arrived literally 4 days after I requested it. The Dutch one cost 30 euros + wire transfer fees and arrived 2.5 weeks after requesting it.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I guess I'll try the channeler root and at the same time I'll request a FBI clearance and if I get rejected at least I'll have the FBI one.

The the other country that my spouse needs a report from is israel and on the CIC website it says that the israeli police will only send the report directly to the Tel Aviv Embassy and I should write the file number on the request which we obviously don't have yet :(. Should I write a letter when I apply explaining that I will send the Israeli police check once I have a file number?

From the CIC website...

Applicants should apply for an Israeli police certificate at the nearest police station. Applicants must complete application form #3019 and provide a photocopy of their passport’s first page as well as present their identity card or passport and their visa file number.
