Police clearance and passport renewal

Hello, am in Vancouver on a work permit ( noc 2171). My passport expires May 2016. I have my profile ready and wondering if there is any dependency on my passport renewal and getting police clearance from indian consulate before submitting profile. My questions are:
1. Bls told me it is better to renew passport first and then submit for police clearance, since they stamp it on the passport. Any thoughts if I should follow what was suggested - passport renewal and then police clearance?
2. Should I wait till I get new passport before submitting profile, as the passport number changes on renewal or I can update passport number after submitting profile?

Can someone the forum pls help?

I am also in the same situation. I got my PCC with my old passport last week from Vancouver BLS. And submitted application for PP renewal after that. PCC with the old passport is valid unless I make a travel to India before submitting PR application. And I am waiting for next draw with 475 points in my EE profile

I had a similar situation...mine was expiring in nov 15 while I was preparing to apply in jan 15 for EE. I had read somewhere that your passport has to be valid for more than six months while ppr is made (not sure where).therefore I decided to renew my passport first which came in 3rd week and post that I applied for indian PCC from Toronto bls...and that arrived in again 3rd week.
I had submitted my old passport photocopy along with original new passport for pcc application.
So if I were you, I would go ahead with a passport renewal followed by pcc..

Another question - I have to get police clearance from India and US. Based on what I have read, India takes 2 months (1 month for passport renewal in my case) and US takes 3 to 4 months. Given these 2 factors, do I need to wait to submit my profile before having these in hand, or submit the profile and let these processes go in parallel?
Please suggest

U can submit ur profile and these processes can go parallel ..it's only once u have recieved ITA u will need to upload the docs...

When I get my passport renewed, the passport number changes. I should be able to update the passport number on my profile - submit the new number with the application right?

Yes you should. I was able to update mine.
