I am looking at the PR app for common law sponsorship, and do I need a police certificate? I am confused with this statement from the CIC website "You may need a police certificate from any country or territory that you have spent six months or more since the age of 18." I have been staying here in Canada since I was 18, and the only country I have been in for 6 months is Canada since that age. Would I need to get police certificate from the USA( my country of origin ) or just one from within Canada? Also, should I submit this with the PR app?Do I also need to submit fingerprints too? Thanks

Inland or outland app?
After submitting your application, you will at some point be asked to submit police certificates for any country where you have spent 6 or more consecutive months in while over the age of 18. What is your status in Canada? How long have you been in Canada?

They request it during the process. So to avoid delays i would start the wheels in motion to get the police cert as soon as your app is posted..so it will be more than likely ready when they ask for it.

Hi, it's actually quite a weird situation. I have lived in the States my whole life, but when I graduated from high school (I barely turned 18 before I graduated) I came up here to start the process with my girlfriend as we were already together for nearly 2 years. So I was in the states for a total of 4 and a half months after the age of 18, but I have been in Canada for a total of 1yr, 2 months, with an extension that will take me to my official date that we are common law in May. I am now a bit over 19.

ah ok.. so you have not gone back to the U.S. in this time ? What is your immigration status in Canada?

Well two months after I graduated, I went back to the US for 2 months, then came to Canada for a total of 4 months spent in the states since 18. My status in Canada is currently visitor, on my second extension. I also would like to add I may just do a inland app since it takes the same time now, and I am going to extend my visitor status again during the app.
