Police certificate

Hi there,

I just got an email from CIC regarding out application.
They need a translation of my german police certificate that I failed to attach.
The police certificate I attached was dated someday in June 2014. It was addressed to my address here in Canada. I sent the original with our application and unfortunately didn't keep a copy.
CIC requested to have the translation of my police certificate by November 13, 2014 else it would result in refusal.

So here is my question... I have an "older" police certificate in my files dates October 13, 2013.
I ordered that police certificate last year when I was at home in Germany. It has no entries just like the one I sent to CIC.

My question is...could I take my old police certificate to get it translated or do I have to get a complete new police certificate?
My fear is...if I have to get a new one I'd have to get my passport notarized...send the request via mail to Germany...cross my fingers that they'll get my police certificate back to Canada less than a month, then I'd have to get it translated, then send it to Mississauga.
I'm scared it won't be enough time to get all these things done.

Thanks for your help guys!

Even if the police certificate you sent to CIC is the same as the old one, it is not what they asked for.

I am not familiar with the authorities in Germany who issues certificates but in the UK they keep them on file for a few months (I think 3) so if you request a PC within that time frame they reprint it. This is quicker than going through the whole process again.

Also, from reading this forum, some members have said that as long as CIC knows you are dealing with their request (applied for a new certificate) within the 30 days they will wait for the documents requested. Obviously, you should try and contact the visa office and let them know it will take you longer to get the certificate and see what they say. If they say that is fine, try and get it in writing and include that with the document when you send it in.

I don't think an older police certificate would do.

If it is possible to get a certified translation of your police certificate without the original (using just a scan or copy) maybe you could contact the Visa Office and ask them to send it to you.

If that's not possible, I would just get a new German police certificate immediately. I would make scans of your application for a German PC and send it to Germany by Fedex or something, and email your VO with proof of having applied for a new PC, showing the tracking number, copy of your application, etc.

When we had to get a second Russian PC, our MP's assistant assured us that the VO will not automatically close the file on the deadline date, if they are aware that we are taking every step possible to comply. (Manila gave us 45 days to comply. The website of the Russian consulate in Toronto says PC take up to 2 months. So before our 45 day deadline expired, we sent them proof that we had applied for the PC, along with a screenshot of the website saying it may take 2 months. Eventually, Manila got our PC about 2 weeks after the deadline they gave us. We got COPR shortly after that.)
