Alright so I'm putting a permanent residence app in thru common law sponsorship and I have a few questions regarding the police certificates.

1. I'm a United States citizen but I'm living here in Canada so I cant go down to the states to get a set of fingerprints. To obtain fingerprints could I print out a fingerprint card and take it to a police station here in Canada to get them done? I'll also need to get a certificate for Canada too since I'v been here for more than 6 months so that would be convenient if I get them done for both

2. Since processing times for certificates takes a long time thru the FBI should I start that whole process now? Or do I need to wait till they request them to start?

If you are a citizen of United States:
If you live outside of United States:

Option 2:

"For U.S. citizens and permanent residents only: you may apply to an FBI-approved channeler (a third party that helps deliver your information to the FBI). They will collect your application form, fingerprints, any fee(s), and give them to the FBI.

Once the FBI completes their background check, they will send the results to the channeler. The channeler will then then give you your record check letter."
