Police Certificate Expiry

I've got a police certificate for the UK which is dated on the 30th of March 2012. I'm about to submit my papers to CIC and I've found conflicting advice regarding the validity of a police certificate.

The guide says that a police check needs to be no more than 3 months old, whereas the document checklist says that they are generally good for a year from the date of issue?

Who do I believe!!?

Those are not contradictory.

As a general rule, CIC must receive the police certificate no more than 3 months from its original issue. It is valid to CIC for one year from the date of issue. Some people have submitted police certificates more than 90 days old and had them accepted. For others, they are rejected. Thus, it seems to be the officer's discretion.

Send the application. If they need a new police certificate, they will ask you for one. That will delay your application, but waiting for a new police certificate does so anyway, plus you may find that OTHER things start to time out.

Cool thanks for the advice. It seems that BC PNP reccommend that I send off my application without my police check, and in the meantime apply for a new one. Then as soon as I get it, I just mail that in too. Saves waiting around for a new police certificate before I send my application off!

I had mine taken for UK as well. its 3 months. regardless of the origin it expire in 3 months
