!! I just found out about the Police thing... for some reason, I thought it was only if you had a record. And it takes 16-18 weeks to process in the US! I've lived in the same state all my life, except for one year, I lived in a different state. Do I need to get a Police Certificate from each state, or just this one I've lived in the majority of my life? But my main question is this: Can I file all the permanent resident/sponsorship stuff in July like I'd planned... or do I really need to have the Police Certificate and Medical Exam done first?? Thank you so much!!

I'm assuming that you're applying outland? Yes, the Police Certificate and the record of Medical Exam need to be included. That said, from my own experience FBI clearance doesn't really take 16-18 weeks (it arrived to me within 3 weeks). You just need to indicate on the outer enveloppe, as well as on the cover letter, your expected due date. The CIC recently changed the information on its website regarding the requirement to get a certificate from individual states - it now clearly states that a certificate from each state where you have lived for more than 6 months is required. Check http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/Detroit/offices-bureaux/certificates-certificat.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=332&menu=L for information on how to receive certificate from individual states.

Wow... I'm not sure if I'm going to have that money in time. :(

I'm surprised they do it this way! It would be so awful if I were refused, and needlessly in debt.

Thank you for your response.

ALSO- Do I have to travel to Florida to get this done??? (the state I lived at for a year, but don't anymore). I hope not!!

For Florida check here : https://www2.fdle.state.fl.us/cchinet/Memorandum.aspx

Be sure to send the request by mail. Don't use the online service - it won't send you back the certified documentation that you will need to send to CIC in your application. The above link has a downloadable form that you can print, fill out and mail along with your payment. I'm not sure how long it will take but I guess you can call and find out.

As for the fingerprinting, you can get this done usually at a local police precinct for a small amount of fee - but it totally depends on where you reside.

THANK YOU! I will definitely do that, I was ready to pull my hair out! =]

Now I just need to figure out how long the medical exam will take...

We want to fill everything out in two months, so I'm hoping it will all work!

The medical doesn't normally take very long, you should have it in 2 months :)

Be aware though, the prices for the medical exam differ between different DMPs. I've heard people from the US complain about the prices. I don't know if you have the option, but if you do, try to call several different DMPs to get the lowest price. And be sure they give you the form you need after the medical is done (IMM 1017).

Thank you! I'm going to Canada to visit in July, and could go to a Toronto doctor, but I wouldn't have it finished within these two months?? I don't want to push time.

So, all that's happening, is the doctor is going to perform the exam, I give him the form to fill out (Appendix C) and then they give me the IMM 1017? And I send that with the application?

Thank you all again so much.

you get the examination do the bloodwork get the xray .. they give you back the form but I heard if you do it in Canada make sure you tell them that you are applying out of Canada as it is a different form. :) It may be a bit cheaper than the US. You should get everything in the same day or two.

Great!! Thank you again for your help! I will call up a few local Canadian doctors then, and ask them. Maybe they can help. I'm leaving to visit Canada at the end of July, and my fiancee and I are getting married then. So, we're getting married, having my medical exam and sending out our application!!! =]

I'm really happy the Toronto thing works out. It's going to save me at least $150. (Which is great, considering I thought the medical exam was around the interview time!!!)

Thanks again for all your help. This forum has been amazing. Once we get things going, I'll be sure to post up my timeline.

Hey nyssa ,
like other told you, yo need a state police clearance from each state you lived in for more than 6 month as well an FBI clearance.
And by saying on the cover letter and on the envelop that you need the clearance very quick for immigration purpose, they will send them fast to you. I live in Lebanon, I sent them my fingerprints, I got the state police clearance in 12 days and the FBI in about 20 day...so it is easy,

Rorita_76, yes, I'm planning on it! I'm first going to call a Toronto location to see if they can do this medical exam for me while I'm up visiting (and have it ready to send with the application a few days after!)

Then I'm going to get my FBI stuff ready to send out (and visit my local police department). Do I just print out that form on regular computer paper and ask them to have me fingerprint that document? And ooooh right, post office for the money order since they don't accept personal checks!! Almost forgot that one!! =]

And then I'm going to send out my state stuff as well... which is the MOST CONFUSING. But I'm just going to call the offices and hope they can help me. And I hope they don't need me to travel there for anything...

well I don't know how people were able to use the fingerprint form printed on regular paper.
What I did, is that Husband in currently in the USA, so he sent me 4 original set of fringerprint from the FBI office, because you need 2 set for FBI and 1 set for the state police, I made an extra one.
what we sent for FBI and state police were: 2 set of fingerprint, PC-1 letter, cover letter, and authorization for me to my lawyer their to be able to get the clearance, otherwise they don't give it to anyone except the main applicant.

Hmmm...

I just called a doctor's office and set up an appointment in Toronto.

They said they only use their "standard form" for all applicants and send it to Ottawa, and that because I'm a US Citizen there isn't a seperate form, just that one.

I said, I'm applying outland in Buffalo, and she said I need to come in there with the Buffalo address and it will be an extra $80.

Does this sound accurate to anyone or should I call and cancel my appointment?? Thank you!

ALSO - For the state certificates, I should get fingerprints and send them out to the two states I've resided in as well? Just on whatever paper my local police department gives me?

I read from this forum that you an have your medicals transferred to Buffalo by contacting them. Maybe that someone will respond. You can do a search in the forum for medicals maybe it will come up. There are a few that were US Citizens doing the medicals in Canada.
What would the extra 80 be for? I don't get that.

You have to get police certificates from anywhere you have lived for more than 6 months I think since you were 18 maybe someone could clarify that.

Here's how the medicals work:

After you take the medical exam, the results are sent to the Regional Medical Office responsible for the area. Both for the US and Canada, that is in Ottawa. So if they send it to Ottawa, that is perfectly ok, there is no need to send to Buffalo. I guess the extra $80 would be for the postage? Really expensive postage though.

When the exam is finished, you get the IMM 1017 form (you HAVE to get this). You send the form with the application to Mississauga. Mississauga will approve the sponsorship and forward everything to Buffalo. Then Buffalo will use your IMM 1017 form to get your medical results from Ottawa. The form has a number and barcode, so they know exactly what test results to get.
So everything should be just fine in your case. A lot of people from the US did their medicals in Canada because it's much cheaper and they had no problems.
