Points for Diploma Course

Hi All,

Firstly, I have to say you have all been great with my recent posts thanks for all the information

Im just wondering at the moment I am short points but have the occupation on the NOC list, which is so frustrating. But my question is i can get on to a 2 year diploma course and use my 1 year certificate to get on to the 2nd year of the Diploma Course. Can i use this then as a 2 Year diploma course or will I still be only classed as completing a 1 year course. I know this sounds a bit muddled but my situation is as follows:

Completed 14 years of Secondary School and 1 Year Certificate Course = 15 points.

I have also completed a one year diploma course recently

But if i use my 1 year certificate course to get on to the 2nd year of a 2 year diploma course will this give me 20 points can this be done does anyone know?

Hope you understand what I mean, all help needed.

If you will enroll in a two year program, and the college will credit you the first year towards the program completion, and eventually will grant you a fully credible two year degree, then, yes. I don't see other way than this.

If you study a separate one year diploma, than I'm afraid you gain nothing from immigration pass mark perspective.

I must to say that immigration laws are changing on next June, in which less points are given to education, more to experience. So no one gaurantees that studying or earning additional degree is a confirmation for more points.

I recall we suggested this before but you need to try gaining the missing points thru language, experience, adaptability...etc, if feasible.

Thanks thats a great help. I have 15 years experience in my field so hopefully they don't reduce the points here and I am currently trying to get more points for my french. But unfortunately my partner only has a cousin in Canada whom we have never spoke and cousins don't count.

So fingers crossed on my french.

Just wondering, you did consider your spouse education, rights? Also, have you checked your points in experience? Is there anything you can do there? Like part time....!

Yeah my spouse only have 10 years in Secondary school but has completed a diploma course, no points for that.

No sure what you mean by part-time?

I was just wondering if the 2 year diploma course I completed was part-time would this cause problems also?

For your second question, no worries, you should be ok.

What diploma your spouse has and how many years? If it's 2 years, you get 3 points! If he did 10 yrs school + 2 yrs diploma, he gets 3 points.

It was a one year diploma course, anything for that, god im really scaping the barrell now!
