I undersand this is not a new question.
I have been working in Saskatechwan for 5 months. My work permit visa expires in 18 months.
I have two options to apply for the PR either through the PNP (after 6 months of emplyment) or through CEC (after 1 year of employment). I am not sure which way to go, based on the limited available time.
Thank you

I want you to ask yourself this question.
If I apply for PNP nomination in my province, how long will it take for me to be nominated?
- If nomination will take more than 6 months to get, I will advice you wait and apply for CEC. The only issue is registering for IELTS or French Equivalent, which you have to pass before you apply for CEC. So, plan ahead.

Although PNP has another advantage. Once nominated, you could use your nomination certificate to apply for work permit extension. You will be granted based on the nomination.
I don't know if CEC has such rights and privilege as well.
However, the disadvantage of PNP is that you may need to stay in the province when you become PR until you get your citizenship (though this cannot be verified. It is only implied from recent happenings). But for PR under CEC, you are not restricted to any province. You can move wherever you like at any time.

I have checked the nomination, it takes an average of 3 months (not guaranteed though based on a phone call with an officer)
I already have an IELTS certificate that is still valid, so no problem with that.
The idea is the time frame

If you feel you are committed to the province in the next 3 years, you can apply for nomination. PNP is as fast as CEC these days...Except QSW (Quebec form of PNP) which lasts for 19 months as per current federal processing time.
