Hi

No, background checks are done by CSIS with no input from either the applicant or CIC. They are entirely different from Criminal Records Checks.

We already went through one entire year of CSIS doing a background check on his military service before we moved forward with this renewal of medical, police and passport as of April. Why would there need to be another lengthy term of repeating the same thing with just renewed police records? Especially when everyone on this site and Trackitt.com has said that once they had the renewed medical and police docs and had asked for the passport, that WAS the final stage and people have been reporting only a matter of 2 weeks to less than 8 weeks to be issued the final PR Visa? It's now been 3 1/2 months since they've had his passport.
Why the difference in why others are issued a PR Visa in only weeks if they are all undergoing ANOTHER CSIS background check at the very end after renewed police check? This makes no sense. Why a 2nd CSIS check when the last one was finished in Feb.? thankyou

No idea, unless something came up during the background check and CSIS wants to re-check, seems strange to me. Usually if something comes up on a security check, there is a security interview with CSIS.

Thank you for your ideas PMM. It does seem really abnormal. There's just NOTHING in my husband's background that could/should have sparked this. Maybe someone throwing another review into the timeline as revenge. I only EVER contacted them after recognized timelines had passed. I'll be looking into it via my MP and any other avenue I can. Something is very wrong here.

PMM - CSIS do the army back ground check on bases of information you provide them.

The regiment you had served.
The commanding officer name.
Place where you had served.

That's exactly what we had to provide also. But then it took a year to complete the in-country data confirmation and the CSIS in Canada as well. Terrible.

The CSIS just does your security clearance but the background check is done by the CIC visa posts of the country you have lived in. So if you live in USA but you have had your education in India they will call them or email them to check if what you claim is true. CSIC just does your name check against all the violent groups through most of the data base. I read in another forum that they prefer immigrants from USA because they have access to all the USA criminal records, and if USA allowed them in so they must be clean and they also do a clearance from FBI. Most of the problems are because of CSIC as they are backlogged to get clearance.
FBI Fingerprint Check—FBI fingerprint checks are conducted for many applications. The FBI fingerprint check provides information relating to criminal background within the United States. If there is a record match, the FBI forwards an electronic copy of the criminal history (RAP sheet) to USCIS. Although the vast majority of inquiries yield no record or match, about 10 percent do uncover criminal history (including immigration violations). Customers with prior arrests should provide complete information and certified disposition records at the time of filing to avoid adjudication delays or denial resulting from misrepresentation about criminal history. Even expunged or vacated convictions must be reported for immigration purposes and visa background search.

What about sponsors? Are these checks done on sponsors, too?

Cheers.
Yes, to see if they have convictions for sex crimes or family assaults.

PMM, an attorney informed me that CIC has the right to refuse an application on the basis of criminality. If its not against a family - immediate or extended - and not sexual, do I really have this to worry about? Im just wondering if this is just a scare to get me to hire them. Or maybe I am better off getting a lawyer?

Your choice, your application would be suspended from processing as well if the sponsor is in prison.
