I currently work as a Registered practical nurse with three different nursing employment agencies since october 2010 till present. I couldn't get employed directly from a company after my graduation, so these agencies employed me and i work from time to time through them. My case differs because I don't work everyday. Sometimes I work more than 40 hrs per week and sometimes I don't. I am thinking of applying under CEC next year.

My question are:

Am I eligible to apply through nursing employment agencies? Howdo i calculate the hours and become eligible to apply? october 2011 will be exactly one year since i started working.
wen will I appy? what's the different between continous full time job for one year or equivalent in partime? do i need to get letters from each agency stating that i works for them and particular number of hours worked ? what is the different between employment letter and letter of references? I will also include my 2011 income tax (T4) and NOA during my application. I wonder if it will help to determine the hours worked? pls help me out . I am so confused.

Full time work equivalent of one year is 1950 hours so if you have that, you can apply. If you have less, you must wait until you reach 1950 hours.

You will have to have good records of the number of hours worked. Your letter from your employer (yes, the agency will count) should specify the number of hours... Your situation IS a bit confusing, I"m not sure if you
(a) simply need to calculate total number of hours worked in a year (it has to be at least 1950 before you qualify), or

(b) if you have to count the number of weeks where you worked full time (at least 37.5 hours in that week). Then, subtract that number from 52 and multiply by 37.5, that is the number of additional part-time hours you will need to meet the full-time equivalent requirement (for 1 year of experience).

Most people with full-time and part-time job experience will have to follow option B. I would recommend that if you can do it. (yes, it will be difficult).

Note that if you work part-time for some of the past year, you will NOT qualify as of October 2011. You must complete the full-time equivalent of 1 year before you apply.

Scond, read the document checklist for the information that CIC requires in the letter of employment.

Thanx, jes_ON. Ur reply is very helpful.. I am thinking of applying by 2012, July or August to make sure that I got 1950 hrs. Yes, the agencies will specify my hours. I work minimum of 3 days in a week and maximum of 6- 7 DAYS IN a week. That's why it will be hard for me to count the hours. I never work less than 3 days in a week. Summer will be busier like they say and I look forward to work lots of hours to cover up. my work permit will expire by august 2013. I dont know if my PR will be finalized b4 then or if i still need to renew my workpermit or get another status? . my 2 children will accompany me but they are still back home. Wondering if it will take longer applying with family. pls reply if you have any clue. Do I need to include pay stubs? or will t4 and letter from employer be fine??

hard to say. It is possible that processing times will speed up again.

please start reading the information provided by CIC. If you have a family, you don't have a choice. You must apply with them, unless your intention is that they NEVER will join you.

Again, read the checklist. You need to provide the items specified on the checklist. Paystubs are not on the checklist, but as I stated in your case, you will need VERY good records of your hours (like a spreadsheet recording your hours for every week....). It is possible that CIC will request further documentation from you, so be sure that you save all your paystubs in case CIC requests them.
