You can guesstimate your points and apply without taking IELTS and TEF first but if you do this, you risk that you may over-estimate your points. When they ask you for your documents and give you 120 days to provide said test scores, you may find that you can't get high enough scores to give you the desired points and you may not have time to get a 2nd test within the time limit. That is why it would be better for you to take the tests before you apply when you know for sure you are ok with points.

Hi all,

My application status:
Sent application to Sydney NS: 26th April 2009
Received AOR/recommendation from Sydney: 02 June 2009

Now i am facing great trouble. I can't send full application to islamabad since i have not taken IELTS and French exams yet and on my inquiry French Alliance told me that it would take a year to pass Basic french level 1 to 3 and later needed to appear in TEF exam too. I have only 120 days and it seems to me better if i withdrawl my case and apply again.

Any sugguestions? I am afraid in near future they would change 38 occupations. And without French i can't qualify for 67 points. What should i do now? How long would it take to get my fees back? and how to say to them return my fees? I have sent them email but they are not replying.

See From Nova Scotia Sydney my case has been approved recently and i have only 120 days to submit full application.

Now If i take two months basic french class from French Alliance and get certificate would that certificate be enough to send with IELTS result to Islamabad along with my full permanent residence application?

Is there any chance that CIC Islamabad would ask me TEF exam later?

I dont want to withdrawl my case. What should i do now?

Read your application guide at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled.asp and follow the instructions. On the "Schedule 3" form, they will ask you to estimate your language knowledge and ask you if you have taken IELTS or TEF. If you have, say yes. If you have not, say no.

If you haven't taken IELTS yet at the time you fill out schedule 3, you have to write no or you would be lying. You do not want to lie on your application form now, do you?

If you pass the primary selection and they ask for your documents, you have a choice of including IELTS or use other documentation to support your points claim. If you include IELTS, they can not refute your points. If you use documentation, they can give you whatever points they like. They strongly recommend that you take IELTS unless your mother language is English.

The only problem with taking IELTS after you apply instead of before is that you may over-estimate your points. Once they ask for your documents, you have 120 days to provide them. You may then take IELTS and find out that your English knowledge is not as good as you thought it was. You may end up with under 67 points and not enough time to take IELTS again before your time runs out and therefore you may lose your application. If you take IELTS before, you will know exactly what your points are and if you are too low, you have the option to prepare better and take it again. It's all up to you what you do though.
