Re: Can I re-enter Canada only with Work Permit Paper

Yep, work permit authorizes to work in Canada, not entry / exit.

So unless you belong to a visa exempt country for entry to Canada, you need a valid trv.

Note that if you are working in Canada on a valid work permit and don't need to go out and come back, you don't need to get a visa. So this applies only when you intend to travel and come back to Canada

Your employer specific work permit is still valid until its expiry.

So you can stay in Canada until its expiry or you can start working for same employer again at some point latter.

For another employer to hire you, you have to get the same process again. The new employer has to advertise the job and obtain LMIA for you, then you would apply for work permit. Just that work permit processing from inside Canada is faster.

In order to get an open work permit, you need some grounds. Some of possible ones are being spouse of a skilled closed work permit holder, being on a PGWP based upon education obtained in Canada or having submitted a PR application and have passed its first stage approval (AOR) with current work permit due to expire in 4 months.

I don't think any of these apply to you.

The best bet in my opinion is to apply for PR through EE. Even if you score low currently because of not having LMIA (but otherwise score good like 400+, you might get ITA some time latter this year.

Also check your employment insurance benefits. Depending upon which province, type of work and how long have you worked for, you might be eligible for some benefits.
