I am an expat living in Saudi Arabia for all my life, I've never been to my home country of Pakistan so Iwas unable to provide family ties but I do have a job offer back in Saudi Arabia after completion of my course.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
My name is (name) . I would like to introduce myself as a computer and tech enthusiast. From a young age I’ve had a passion for computers and programming. When I was 14 I didn’t like the way the interface was on my PlayStation so I wrote an XML program to change it and a few days later casually posted it it to a gaming/coding forum called psxscene.com, the program was a hit with over 45,000 page views. I still remember the excitement I got from seeing people react and talk about something I had created. I was fascinated by the culture and community around programming so much so that this one XML program turned into a summer hobby for me, all I did was learn and experiment with different kinds programming concepts and ideas. I published more than 7 projects for that forum and with each successful program I wanted to get better and learn more.
Educational Background
I completed an O’Levels after which I studied for two and a half years in Malaysia completing a Diploma in Information Technology with a major in Computer Science. In my free time there I worked on a few C++ and Java projects, gained a certification in Google AdWords and was part of a Microsoft Windows activation program which taught me a lot about hardware and software as I spent a lot of time helping and teaching others with their systems.
I interned at a tech start up called Wonder Pod where I worked as the lead on a big IOT research and development project for them which impressed them enough to offer me a permanent position. After much deliberation I declined because I didn’t want to stop my academic journey there and the idea of being away from my family for so long didn’t sit well with me.
Reason for Choosing Canada
Canada's education standard is second to none and ranks among the best in the world. It’s a peaceful, naturally beautiful country with a diverse, multicultural population that is known for their hospitality and friendliness. It has internationally recognized degrees for every possible occupation. Its education is at a much reasonable fee structure than the United States and other international countries. Moreover only Canada can provide me a peaceful and calm atmosphere to pursue my under graduation education.
Reason for Choosing Memorial University
I was looking to go back to Malaysia but I ultimately decided against in order to look for other opportunities. In my country of residence, Saudi Arabia, post-secondary education for internationals is still developing, there are little to no options for undergraduate computer science qualifications for internationals. Pakistan has many incredible universities with courses in Medicine and Engineering however they don’t offer the right programs in computing for me.
Memorial University offers a well-rounded B.SC program with a major in Computer Science. The university provides a deep, practical knowledge with real world usage of programming languages, machine learning algorithms, computer graphics, in-depth video game development and database management. They offer industry experience with their (CIIO) option so students can obtain rewarding placements that help develop practical skills in a real work setting before graduation.
Memorial is one of the highest rated universities in the country and offers a very high standard of education. There I would find the right kind of attention I needed to diversify my skill set and improve my academic ability.
I’ve been accepted to study the Bachelor of Science at Memorial and I plan to major in Computer Science (Visual Computing and Games) while there.
FUTURE PLANS
After completion I plan to come back to Saudi Arabia and work in multinational companies like Fitaihi Holding Group Co, Saudi Aramco, Danube Group. Currently I have a conditional job offer from Fitaihi Holding Group Co, attached, ensuring me employment in the position of Software developer after successful completion of my Degree from Canada.
The economy of Saudi Arabia is developing at a rapid pace and there is a very high demand for computer oriented professionals. A Canadian degree from Memorial University will give me a definite edge over my competitors and will open other doors of opportunity for me. I can work on high-in demand positions like software developers, research analysts, system and security administrators, artificial intelligence designers, computer aided designed technologists.
Family Background
I come from a highly educated and well respected family that is settled all across Saudi Arabia. Both my Uncles and both their wife’s are doctors. My uncle is a citizen of the UK. My sister is also there doing a masters in investment law and she intends to find a job in Saudi Arabia upon completion. My brother is working here in Bin Dawood group as an auditor and giving his ACCA exams, my mother used to be the headmistress of one of the biggest international schools in Jeddah. My youngest brother is still in school and I took a year off to support and take care of my family and now I feel like I can pursue my own career goals and come back to them better educated with greater employability prospects.
My father will be supporting me for the entirety of my education in Canada. He works as a general manager in a multinational company called Fitaihi Holding Group Co. Previously he sent me abroad to Malaysia for two and a half years, my sister to the UK for completing her masters in investment law and my brother to Malaysia to do a Bachelors in accounting.
