Hi,
my medical reports reached Ottawa on 9th March 2008. I emailed the immigration guys on 10th July 2008 asking how long it could take. The reply that i got is a little confusing. They said:

" Dear Applicant,

Your file is with the officer for final review.

Immigration."

What does this mean? How long could it take from here? Could there be a problem with my file? Could they still reject my application?
Please share your thoughts.

I can imagine that your file is just still sitting in a big stack of files waiting for them to get to it. Of course they can still reject your application if there is a problem with your medical but that's not what it sounds like right now. More that it's just waiting to be approved. If they had already looked at it and found a problem, they would have told you that.

Thanks Leon. The only thing wrong with my medical was High Blood pressure. Is that a problem? Could they reject my application because of high Blood pressure?
Also, How long could it take for them to reply?

They have a limit of blood pressure which is considered ok. When I had my medical, the limit was 140/90 and I was a few points over it. The doctor who did my medical told me that because I was over this limit, I would have to see a cardiologist and get a statement from him that I was ok. The cardiologist made me change my diet, cut out soft drinks, candy, pizza and salt entirely and my blood pressure went down as well as my electro cardiogram was fine so I suppose he wrote a nice letter. In any case, immigration approved my medical, no
questions asked.

Was your blood pressure over 140/90 and did your doctor make you go to a cardiologist?

It was 143/96 the first time. But then the doctor wrote me some prescriptions. and I took the medicine for a week. The next time i went for a checkup it was less than 140/90. The doctor approved it and sent the medicals. But i am sure, when the medicals were sent in it was less than 140/90.
Once the medical reports reach Ottawa, worst come to worst, how long could they take to reply back?
I am starting to panic now, my medical reports reached Ottawa on 9th April 2008. But I havent got any reply till now.

P.S. The doctor changed my diet too. No salt, no hard drinks, no junk food.

If your blood pressure was ok at the time of your medicals, then that should not be a problem. Since you already asked and they told you it's being processed, just wait and they will get to it eventually.

Hey Leon. I checked my e-cas status today and it has an addition. They added a line "Medical results have been received."
Is this a good news? I am really confused, actually my medicals reached Ottawa on 9th April 2008. But they updated it today on the website. Does it mean that there is something wrong?

I also have a question about proof of funds. Do i have to carry that much money in my wallet when I enter Canada? I mean if I showed Cdn $ 12,000 in my account, do i have to have that much amount in cash with me at the port of entry?

Either they updated the website kind of late or they just got to your file at this point. It could be good news or it might not mean anything.

I brought with me a bank draft for $10,000 when I arrived in Canada but they do say you only need proof of funds so maybe a new bank statement would be enough. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp has info on proof of funds and how much money you need to have.

receipt of medicals with no further action for sometime usually means good news (barring any medical problem) ...you don't actually need to carry $12000 CAD cash, but you must have proof of such funds ready when asked!

thank you all for the response. Good news guys.... I got my PPR.... I have a little situation here. I am currently a resident of India, my case is going on in Buffalo. Do I have to fly to Buffalo first to get my visa stamped? Is there a way that I can directly fly to Vancouver and get the formalities done from there? Please help. all the responses are highly appreciated. Thanks Leon. Cheers ! ! !

Do you mean they sent you the visa already or have they told you to come for an interview? If they already sent you the visa, you just go directly to Canada. My PR application was processed by the London office but I never had to go to London. They just sent me the visa and I went to Canada and became a PR as I landed.

The OP is going to have to get his passport to Buffalo, London is the only office that will send passports outside their processing area. Buffalo will not mail the passport outside US/Canada/Bermuda. Also since it is illegal to mail/courier passports in/out of India, the OP is going to have find someone to carry it with authorization to Buffalo, if s/he doesn't have a US visa.

THANK YOU pmm AND leon. they did not send any visa. They just sent me a letter stating that I can either send my passport for stamping or come in person to buffalo. I think pmm is right, i will have to fly to buffalo to get it stamped and then fly to vancouver from there.
