Please Help! What do we need to do to convert Swedish License into Alberta one?

Hello Everyone!

My husband wants to convert his Swedish license (which is written in Swedish) into an Alberta license but we seem to be running into a number of difficulties. After he got his Swedish license he took out an international license as we were under the impression that the international license would be the English translation to the Swedish license. The international license comes in 5 different languages and includes English and French. However, the cover of the international license is written in Swedish. We know that once he writes the theory exam (the class 7) he must surrender his Swedish license. By submitting his Swedish license with the international license, will the government accept it and allow him to do the road test (the class 5 GDL)?

Please anyone from Alberta or anybody from Sweden can you please explain to me what we are supposed to do to so that everything can run smoothly.

What city are you in? Look got a Swedish doctor closest to you and he will help you out with the translation part of things. As long as your spouse has 2 or more years of driving history in Europe, he can get his class 5 immediately after getting his class 7. Once he passes his class 7, he should not he should not get the drivers license as yet, until he's done with the class 5, that way he saves the money for a class 7 license and he can keep driving with his Swedish license until class 5 licensure.
