Hi my name is Michelle mukolo I applied for an extension for a study permit of April 15th 2017 and my study permit was expiring in April 19th 2015. I was advised to do so by one of the cic agent since my passport was not issued yet. But the problem is I mailed my application to the wrong office and when they returned it to me , it was may and my permit had expired already. My question is, is there no way that the office in Ottawa could communicate and provide proof that I had applied for the application before my visa expired but it was sent to the wrong office? I really don't want to stop studying because I am in between finals. Please help. Should I get a lawyer to proof that?

Your application has to be received by the right office in order for you to have implied status. Since you sent the application to the wrong office and it was returned, you don't have implied status and you're now out of status in Canada. You'll need to stop studying immediately. You'll have to apply to restore your status and at the same time again apply to extend your study permit.

There's nothing a lawyer can do to fix this.
