Hi to all,
Recently, I am sponsor on my wife's PR application, so far the process is running good.
Suddently, the immigration department in Hong Kong sent a pile of documents to request my step-daughter to perform medical check.
She is an exchange student in Iceland currently and CIC need her to go to Great Britain for med-exam...
Up to this hour, me and my wife found that the volcano had been erupted, most of the european airport closed, and her dealine for med-exam is on MAY 1st.
What can I do to notify CIC about the incident? Can I submit my step-daughter's med-exam, which is done by AFS(Exchange student organization). And redo the exam later on? I have no idea why would CIC needed med-exam in Britain, rather than in Iceland??

Any suggestion, please drop me a line....A million thanks ~!

Your step daughter requires a Medical exam by a DMP. The problem that you found, is that there is no DMP in Iceland. So she is going to have to get an appointment with a DMP in the UK. Note the airport in Iceland is not closed. There are delays and cancellations though.

I'm sure that this situation will blow over (pun intended) before may 1st... Book a ticket for next week... I think she should have had the medical done before the application was submitted, so while this request may seem unreasonable, they could have technically rejected the application all together, so unfortunately you are stuck to their timelines... They may extend if the "cloud" doesn't clear, but I'd say book for next week or early the following one and break out that fedex acct (have her send while she's in UK, will likely be faster)... if there are still delays i'd forge ahead with soonest possible date, notify CIC in as many ways as you can the reason for delay and hope for the best... I'm sure they'll have some understanding of the unusual circumstances

Good luck!

There was a DMP in Iceland that you could go to when i checked about 6 months ago, but now when i went to cic.gc.ca to find his info they say that there is no dmp in Iceland....

Another option would be for her to fly to the states or Canada for the checkup since the ash is blowing over europe ?

It could all be over tomorrow......but it could also go on for a year or more.

We check the avalibility on ICELAND airport, also we found there is no direct flight to Canada. It means she need to make a transfer in LHR then to YYZ.

The documents had been stamped 21/3/2010 and required the med-exam to be done by first week of May. The medical exam documents are needed to send back to Canadain Embassy in Beijin, China(Why not just send it back to HK or CPC-V???)
Also, we always use UPS to make posting, and it takes 3 days to designated area...
Is it possible to ask a lawyer to issue a statement or letter to state our difficulties?
If it works, where should I send it to? Embassy? CPC-V along with case/file number.?
Thanks guys~!

Looking at the website of the Icelandic international airport, see http://www.kefairport.is/English/Timetables/Departures/ it looks like flights to London have been cancelled as well as Berlin and Oslo but they are still flying to Glasgow for some reason.

There should be direct flights to Toronto but going to the US might also be an option.

Your best bet is probably to try making a connection in Halifax, New York, or Boston.

Don't try to push back (with a lawyer, etc), just get her to a DMP (can in theory be any DMP anywhere in the world) and get the medical done. If you delay past the deadline, they could say you're refusing to cooperate in having her examined and refuse the sponsorship. It's in your best interests to just get the medical done by the date they've said.

I realized there are some connect flights from Iceland to Toronto, but here are the problems:
1)My step-daughter possess British National (Oversea) passport, she needs US visa to gain entry while taking flights to Boston then to Toronto.
2)Direct flight from Iceland to Canada will resume on 5/12, which is more than a week to the med-exam deadline!
3)After we had a hard fight with AFS(exchange student program), they only allow 3days-off school, otherwise deemed absentism and deport from Iceland. Although we sent sufficient documents(CIC's) to the AFS headquarter, they just giving us a slap-dash answer and attempting (Which we fight for 35days, daily!) to slow down our cast process! Nevertheless, they have made a good bet to wait til the volcano blow up and cause us lose the bargin!

We know about DMP anywhere in the world, but circumstances are restricting my step-daughter to depart from Iceland.

I made a call to CIC call center and they instruct me to issue a statement to explain the incident, along with promising the medical exam will be done in England. Also, the agent said the Canadian government had the acknowledgement about the situation, and urge me to send them email or a writern explanation back to orginal city as soon as possible. Usually, the visa office in Hong Kong will permitting the delay and without penalty, because of natural diseaster and we will not risking a 16 years old girl's life to go to England in this moment.

We were under stress in these days because our case is in finalizing stage, only 2 to 3 months will receive the notice of PR.....

Glasgow is open and there are two DMP's there: http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=1877&CountryName=Scotland

Scotland is open http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/8624306.stm

Well, I am afraid the wind is blowing backward to Canada Eastern Coast, maybe in this week. I traced the weather satellite image and did not sleep last night! According to my research, the last eruption lasted about 2 weeks and the cloud maintained on the sky for another 2 weeks....thus the situation is getting bad on over europe and the flights to Halifax...
