Hi Guys,

Thanks for taking your time in reading this.

I am BC PNP Applicant. My application was received by Federal CIC in March 2012. I am planning on having religious marriage with my fiance next week in Bangladesh, but my fiance does not want to have paper marriage at this time. She wants have a pilot relation for 2 years and then if things go well we will have official documented paper marriage. So for the next two years we will be in a relation without getting officially married.

My question is that next week when I have religious marriage ceremony do I have to inform CIC of my relationship status change ? regarding my in process PNP Application in Ottawa. Technically without having paper marriage I am still a single....as we are not going to have official documented marriage until next two years.

My fiance in in Bangladesh and Bangladeshi citizen.

Please help me

Thanks

I DONT KNOW WHAT RELIGIOUS MARRIAGE MEANS BUT ONE THING IS IF YOU ARE MARRIED AND OFFICIALLY REGISTERED THEN YOUR STATUS WILL BE MARRIED, WHICH MEANS WHERE EVER YOU DO MARRIAGE BUT IT HAS TO BE OFFICIALLY REGISTERED THEN ONLY IT WILL BE CONSIDERED AT MARRIAGE. BUT IF ITS A ACTUAL MARRIAGE ACCORDING TO YOUR COUNTRY LAW THEN YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED AT A MARRIED PERSON, IT DOESN'T MATTER YOU HAVE OFFICIAL DOCUMETNS OF NOT. SO BEST WILL BE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL AUTHORITY AND ASK THEM IS THIS MARRIAGE GOING TO BE REGISTERED OR NOT, MARRIAGE IS MARRIAGE IT DOESN'T ITS OFFICIAL, RELIGIOUS OR DOCUMENTED

Basically, you're having a committment ceremony? (If you apply to sponsor her in the future, this might be a better term to use so you don't confuse the VO with the two marriages.)

If this doesn't qualify as a valid, legal relationship in Canada, then you don't need to notify them. Here is what Canada considers a valid, legal marriage:

Definitions

Spouse

You are a spouse if you are married to your sponsor and your marriage is legally valid.

If you were married in Canada:
•You must have a marriage certificate issued by the province or territory where the marriage took place.

If you were married outside Canada:
•The marriage must be valid under the law of the country where it took place and under Canadian law.
•A marriage performed in an embassy or consulate must comply with the law of the country where it took place, not the country of nationality of the embassy or consulate.

If you intent to live with her in Bangladesh for a minimum of 12 months, then you would be common-law and need to declare that when the relationship becomes eligible at 12 months.

So basically.... does Bangladesh recognize the ceremony you're having as a legal, valid marriage?
