Hello everyone,

BACKGROUND: I am an Indian citizen, going to graduate as a veterinarian from India in Jan 2015

GOAL: Settle down in Canada with a PR

CURRENT PLAN: Enroll for a Masters program in Canada, take a study loan to handle the expenditure and work while studying trying to pay back as much of the loan as possible, apply via Masters PNP by the end of Masters, get the PR, clear all the Vet licensing exams and work as a Vet.
I have been targeting Ontario province so far

QUESTIONS:

1. What is the work situation for International students in Ontario? How hard it is to hit that 20Hr mark every week at respectable wages? Considering you are healthy and have a great hold at English (almost native like) (PS: I know it depends on your location, situation etc. but I just want an idea)

2. What is the PNP cap situation? How long does it take for the Masters graduates to be eligible for PR application? Which province is best suited for this approach of getting a PR?

3. What are the practical options of extending your stay and work permit in Canada once your complete the Masters degree (say your PNP application work is just under process at that time)

4. How should the Express Entry affect the whole International Masters students way of getting a PR in future? Veterinarian is not in the Canadian skilled occupation list yet, are there any chances of it getting included in the next revisions?

I know this has been a long post, and I don't expect anyone to answer all my questions (predictions? lol) Thanks a lot for your patience :) If any one who has followed this same path could share their practical experience, it could change my life and hopefully of so many others who will stumble upon this topic!

Thanks in advance and wish you great luck in your endeavors :)

Hi Eddy24,
I can't promise to answer every single question but will try my best. Keep in mind that I am no expert, so don't take my advise without proper research.
Just like every other first time applicant, you have a high expectation for Canada. I hope I can help you avoid mistakes before you arrive.

When you speak of study loan, is that in Canada or India?

1. Finding work whether part time or full time is never easy so don't count on it a 100% to support yourself. Come prepared for the worst but hope for the best. Nothing is easy especially in Ontario which is a major destination for a lot of immigrants. I am currently working on a write up on my blog about working and paying tuition in Canada. It should be up on December 1st. Be sure to stop by.

2: Each province has its own PNP website. Make sure you visit those pages for information. Saskatchewan and Manitoba seems to be favorable for P.R at least so I heard.

3. I think there's a special case for people who have their application in progress. See the cic website or the express entry topic.

4. Express entry is still very vague at this moment. A lot of us with questions have been asked to wait patiently for January 2015.

I write a bit on a few issues surrounding international students on my blog. Like i said earlier, I will be posting a write up( here and my blog) about working and paying tuition in Canada on December 1st. Most of your questions about working and wages will be answered then.

I hope i have addressed some of your concerns.
