Hi my name is Danny, and I'm very lost on how I should sponsor my wife to Canada. I don't want to make any mistakes to avoid delays. We really love each other and don't want to leave each other and want to try to be together as soon as possible. Please give me suggestions and advice, and thank you all!

I'm a born Canadian citizen, and my wife is a Vietnamese citizen.

My story and situation:

We met in Macau were dating and living together since 2010 and we married in Macau May 2013. My wife is still working in Macau and her work VISA is ending in May 2014, and she don't know if she could extend her working VISA in Macau yet until the time comes. If she can't extend she will be going back to Vietnam.

My biggest problem is that I'm broke and I probably need to go back Canada and find a job and support myself. I wish I could stay with her in Macau/Vietnam until we could come back together. We really wish we would come back together, but I did some research online and found out it takes quite some time.

Please give me some advice how I could proceed and what would be my success rate. I have no proof of income which is one of my biggest concerns because I haven't been working since 2010. We be really happy if we could come back together as soon as possible and find a job together, but as I did some research looks like it takes some time for my wife to be able to come Canada.

1. If I stay in Macau or Vietnam with my wife how long and what is the success rate would be if I apply this way?

2. If I come I come back to Canada first find a job and wait for her. How long would it take and what would be the success rate?

3. Any one know a way where we would come Canada together soon as possible? We would be extremely happy if there is such method.

The success rate with be the same whether you applied inland or outland. It is a matter of how complete your application is, your relationship history and if there are any flags raised.

If there are no flags and you did everything by the book, the success rate will be very high.

That said.

1) and 2) it doesn't matter if you stayed with her or moved to Canada. The timeline will be the same. It tends to be much faster than what is general listed on websites.

3) there is no faster approach to moving to Canada. Only other thing I can think of is if your wife can come into Canada on a visitor visa and stay with you. You can then submit an inland application. However it is one of the longest timeline. Up to 18 months for your wife to land as PR.

Since she is right now a legal resident of Macau with a 1 year visa, I would highly recommend to immediately apply outland, and choose the Hong Kong visa office (based on Macau residency) to process your application. The usual office for Vietnamese citizens is Singapore, which has some of the longest processing times in the world. Hong Kong is one of the quickest.

Unfortunately while you can request HK office, there is no guarantee CIC will send the app there. They may still send it based on citizenship which would be to Singapore which could mean a very long wait (over a year longer vs HK).

Another option is to apply for a TRV for your wife to visit Canada. While there is no guarantee of success, if the TRV is approved then once she's in Canada you could apply inland and she would then stay in Canada for the entire processing time.

There is no income requirement to sponsor a spouse, but you do need to show a financial plan and that you won't go on social assistance after she gets PR. So how do you intend to support youself when returning to Canada? Can you live with family? Have lots of savings? What type of job/salary do you expect to get in Canada based on your qualifications/education? All of this is important and will need to be communicated to CIC.
