Good morning everybody.

Here's an interesting question.

I am filling out form IMM5406 : Additional Family Information and am required to fill in my father's place of birth.

He was born in 'Democratic Republic of Congo'. At the time, in 1957 it's official name was 'Belgian Congo'.

Which one do I use ?

CIC website says the following: use the name of your place of birth that appears on your immigration document.

Immigration document An official document issued by a CIC or Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) office, Case Processing Centre (CPC) or Canadian visa office outside Canada

Note: My dad is NOT a Canadian citizen/resident and therefore doesn't have any immigration document issued by CIC/CBSA

Thanks !
