Hi everyone,

I came to realize that some immigration programs require the principal applicant to submit his/her birth certificate. I recently found that the place of birth in my birth certificate and my passport is different. My birth certificate has the right place and a neighbouring town (approximately 50 km from my actual birthplace) is mentioned as the place of birth in my passport. Without going into too many details, I have had this on my passport for almost 20 years now (changed over 4 passports). Obviously, this was an oversight both by my parents and myself (I became an adult not so long ago). Still, it does not change the fact that both my birth certificate and passport reflect that I was born in the same state in the same country; it's just a different town. Do you think it will be an issue when I apply for PR? I think it is too complicated to change it on my passport as my previous applications mentioned the place of birth in my passport as my birthplace and changing this could raise some questions. Is it better to leave it as it is as the places are not far from each other? In fact, both these places used to be in the same district before they separated. Let me know what you all think.

Hi, you need to have it corrected in your Indian passport before you apply and ensure there is no discrepancy when you apply.

HI Thanks yout your response,

The problem is as i am outside india its very hard to get it changed on the passport, As i have gone thorugh various post on this forum i can see people ase mostly advising submit details as per the Passport as Birth cerificate is not asked and even if its getting asked we can submit alternet document such as high shool certificate to confirm name and BOB.

Did you done this for your passport how much time it taken for you?
