Physical presence of a refugee

How long can a refugee be away from Canada with refugee travel document while PR still under process? Application for PR received by CIC on 1st of January 2016.
Is there any law to explain the refugee physical presence in Canada before being granted as PR? Or it does not matter, the physical presence count starts when PR is being granted?

There is no fixed time. I stayed 3 months abroad and do not have any issue. But you need to explain all the reasons to CBSA officer once you arrive.
Your application was just received. You can easily expect an year or two until you get PR.

Apply 'Verification of status' document online and apply for travel document and keep Travel document and verification of status and IRB decision letter all the time while travelling.
