I have a quick question about the calculation of physical presence in Canada under Bill C-6.

I saw that some of the folks mentioned, days as student or worker in Canada prior to becoming a PR count as 0.5 days (capped at 365 days) within the last 5 years. However, I have been looking at the bill, it didn't mention anything about "must be within the last 5 years" as a requirement for the calculation. Here is the text copied from the bill:

------ quote -----

Length of physical presence — calculation

(1.‍001) For the purpose of subparagraph (1)‍(c)‍(i), the length of physical presence is calculated in the following manner:
(a) for every day during which the person was physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act before becoming a permanent resident, the person accumulates half of a day of physical presence, up to a maximum of 365 days; and
(b) for every day during which the person has been physically present in Canada since becoming a permanent resident, the person accumulates one day of physical presence.

Can someone please confirm that there is no such restriction the calculation of the time spent in Canada as student/worker?

Thanks a lot!

Applicants must be physically present in Canada for three out of five years before applying for citizenship.

Applicants may count each day they were physically present in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person before becoming a permanent resident as a half-day toward meeting the physical presence requirement for citizenship, up to a maximum credit of 365 days.

So, any time spent beyond last 5 years before you file your citizenship application does not count.

Whether the pre PR period is in effect any legal physical presence since birth or in 5 years from application I expect will be clearly defined when CIC update the physical presence calculator FAQs, in particular Q2/A2 in the attached link showing the current 6 year rule.

Until then seems to be destined to remain as speculation and to be interpreted whichever way to suit the potential applicant until the official policy is clarified https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc...509C45FE47DC5F29084471D44ABBBF51?redir=faq#Q2
