I am about to submit my Family Class Sponsorship application. (I am a US Citizen and my wife is Canadian and is going to sponsor me) But on the Document Checklist, it has a place for Proof of Medical Exam. But on the Citizenship and Immigration website, it says "Instructions on how to take the medical examination will normally be sent to you after you submit your application to the visa office."

So, do I go ahead and plan for an examination now before I send all this in? Or do I send it in and wait for them to ask me? Any help?

I had the same question and I forget how I found the answer but I was told to go by the checklist. I went to a DMP, got the medical done, and before I left they gave me a sheet (Appendix something, I think) that basically was like official proof that I'd gotten the medical done there. I put that in my initial application. The actual results are sent straight from the DMP to the visa office that will be processing the application. I didn't have any problems with my application, so I'm assuming I did the right thing? :)

Hi Bob,

You need to have done the medical exam before you submit your sponsorship application.

You can find a CIC Designated Medical Practitioner here: www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx. The Immigrant's Guide (pdf page 6) has a list of what you need to bring. Once you've been examined, they will give you Copy 2 of the Medical Report IMM1017 EFC - Medical Report Section A. You'll need to send this original IMM1017 page with your sponsorship application.

If you send your sponsorship application without the IMM1017, there's a risk that it might be considered incomplete and it might be sent back to you.

I guess they make us do the medical beforehand to make the processing faster, since spousal sponsorship apps shouldn't take very long.
