So I'm looking at photo requirements in immigrant guide (for my Russian wife) and in the region specific guide (Russia obviously). It says;

Immigrant guide

Photos: Ask a photographer to provide you with a set of photos of yourself and each of your family members included in your application, whether they will be accompanying you or not. The required number of photos for each individual is indicated at Appendix A, under PHOTOS. Photos must comply with specifications given at Appendix B, Photo Specifications. Make sure you give a copy of these specifications to the photographer. ·On the back of one photo (and only one) in each set, write the name and date of birth of the person appearing in the photo as well as the date the photo was taken.

Region Specific Guide (Russia)

PHOTOS: Supply eight (8) recent photos for each member of your family and yourself. Read the instructions in your guide in the following sections:
• “Completing the Immigration Forms” and,
• Appendix B: Photo Specifications.
Note: On the back of each photograph, write the name and date of birth of the person who
appears in the photo as well as the date the photo was taken.
________________________________________________________________

My question is, imm guide says only sign name and D.O.B. behind one. Region guide says provide 8 as per imm guide and to sign and D.O.B. behind every photograph.

Does she sign and put D.O.B. behind one photo as per imm guide, or sign and put D.O.B. behind every photograph as per region specific guide?

What's your thoughts?

I would follow the region-specific guide, over the Immigrant's guide, if there are differences.

Think of it this way: EVERYONE must sign and write DOB on the back of at least ONE photo. Russians must sign and write DOB on back of ALL 8 photos.

Actually I view it as EVERYONE must sign in the back of ONLY one photograph, Russians must sign on the back of all photographs. Still a discrepancy and I will call immigration Canada to see what their answer is now. I'll post response shortly :)

Just go by what the Visa office specific guidelines state. For example London you are required to submit 4 photos, Hong Kong 6 Russia 8. So why bother? just follow the directions for the office where you are applying.

Ok, so the answer they give is that it is in fact not written very clearly in the guides. What they mean is if we were to have multiple family members that it is only required to sign behind one for EACH person. Each and every photograph actually means for each and every person...

So only one of her photos will need to have info. This makes more logical sense.

I found this thread very helpful, but I have a related question.

My wife's application will be assessed from Beijing.

The guide says,

"PHOTOS
Include five (5) photos for each member of your family and yourself taken within the last six (6) months. Follow the instructions in your guide:
•Photos in section "Completing the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada", and
•Appendix B: Photo Specifications."

The Photo Requirements page that you're asked to take to the photographer doesn't make any mention of dating, or writing on the back of the photos either.

Lastly, I'm not sure where the section 'Completing the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada' is actually located.

Can anyone advise me on this?

It is different for all regions, some ask for signatures and dating on the back and some just ask you to send the photos in and nothing needed on the back of them. Just follow your guides for your regions.

As for the photos themselves, usually the embassy and mississauga want some and then in the region specific guide there are additional photo requirements needed for the DMP.

IE: I needed to send 6 with my application to CPC-M and another 5 went to the doctor when my spouse went for his medical. None of them needed to be signed or dated on the back. This was for India.
