Hello,

Can anyone tell me if I (Canadian citizen) and our two infants (both Canadian citizens) need to also get 4 photos taken? 13 on the document checklist does say "Supply four recent photos for each member of your family and yourself" but I wasn't sure if this applies to only members of your family that are being sponsored.

Do we need to write anything on the back of the photos? I checked the Appendix B: Photo Specification for the US and I can't see anything written about this. I assumed that we should at least write name and DOB but I don't want to do this if this will cause a delay in our application.

Any advice?

Only those being sponsored are the photos are required. So no pictures for your canadian children or yourself. Just your spouse. BTW the photo required are Permanent Resident photo requirements. Not Canadian passport photos.

You still need to list your canadian children in the additional family form IMM5406 . Also list details on your children on back of sponsorship evaluation form IMM5481. You list number of your children under 6 b) persons not included in 5 above. On back of that form IMM5481, details of children like name, date of birth, name of father, mother, relationship of child to parents, citizenships and current address.

I did this with my 2 canadian children as they were born in US.

Thanks. Both our kids (22 months and 6 months) were born in the US. Our eldest has his "proof of Canadian citizenship certificate" and our youngest we applied for his when he was two months of age. The process takes about 10 months in total so we are still waiting for his certificate. We will enclose a copy of our 22 month old but as for the 6 month old do you think providing proof that his citizenship certificate is being processed is sufficient or will i need to sponsor him as well?

To be honest I'm not sure about that. However what I would do is say you are on process of getting proof of canadian citizenship. And since the child is canadian anyway you should not need to sponsor the child. Just show them that you submitted application for proof of canadian.

Even though they say it can take up up 1 year for citizenship certificate to come through. It only took us 3 months for our children to get theirs. It took me 1 year to get my canadian citizenship certificate but I think it because I already have proof of my citizenship. So why hurry. Whereas your kids don't have any proof except certificate so they are usually place on higher prirority over those who already are canadians.

Hi,

I am going through the same process you went through few months back and was wondering if you heard anything from CIC in regards to the 4 photos? Did you end up taking 4 for each member, or just for your spouse as screech339 suggested. I appreciate your help! It does make a huge difference when spending money on 4 pics for the principal applicant or four family members.

Thanks

If your children are Canadian citizens by birth, then you do not need to sponsor them. You can show you are in the process of getting their Canadian certificate. If you try to sponsor them, your application may get returned for trying to sponsor someone who is already Canadian.

I did as Screech suggested and only had pictures taken for my husband who is American. My kids are both American born but do have proof of their Canadian citizenship. Hope this helps!
